About the name "Rathinosk"

Rathinosk is the name of a Dungeon's & Dragons character from the 1980s.

His full common name is Rathinosk Tibron and his honorifics are Archmage Rathinosk, Lord of Tibron, Grand Chief of the Tiger Clans and Lord of the Tiger Keep.

Pronunciation: /ræθɪnɑːsk ˈtɪbrɒn/ | RAH-thin-AH-sk TIH-bron

Rathinosk started out life as "Rath Inosk" (/ræθ iːnɔːsk/), a Tiger Clan warrior from the Tamire region, in ancestral lands which would later become known as Tibron. The Tamire is located in Taladas, the 'lost' continent of the world of Krynn. He was born hundreds of years before the Great Cataclysm, which destroyed much of the continent. He was the eldest of five brothers and two sisters and was destined to become chief himself had fate not stepped in.

At the tender age of 85, his village was attacked by a rival clan at the behest of an evil warlord to steal the powerful magic totem wielded by Rath's mother. His entire family was killed in the raid and the majority of his tribe was either killed or sold into slavery. Rath himself was badly wounded and left for dead.

Weeks later, Rath awoke in the nearby tower of an elderly mage known to his tribe. The mage offered to teach Rath in the ways of magic, but the desire for revenge clouded his every waking moment. After a few weeks, Rath took off for the coast to track down his family's killers.

Arriving in Armach, the young elf quickly discovered that he was out of his league. He was able to find employment as a guard for the Thieves Guild in Bok and quickly learned the trade himself. He took an interest in magic and began collecting spell books and magical items. He travelled extensively with a group of adventurers and eventually came face to face with the warlord that killed his parents and defeated him.

Rath returned home to pay his respects to his ancestral spirits and met up with the old wizard. Now much older and wiser, Rath chose to accept the teachings of the wizard and was very quickly on his way to becoming a powerful mage himself. He felt his original name, "Rath," was too ordinary for a wizard, and thus adopted the name "Rathinosk." Rath demonstrated an extreme proficiency for planar travel and teleportation.

Rath disguised himself as a human and joined forces with a team of adventurers headed for Ansalon, where he continued to learn and expand on his magical skill. He made several trips back to visit the old wizard until the old man eventually died, leaving Rath his tower and library.

After a strange encounter with a powerful extraplanar creature, Rath found himself on Aber-Toril in possession of an artifact bow named "Pyronix." He decided to explore the new world, discovering powerful magical items in the Netherese ruins and in The Undermountain.

Now a powerful wizard in his own right, Rath looked to the planes for knowledge, exploring Sigil and numerous outer planes. It was during these multiversal travels, spanning countless millennia, that Rathinosk began to exist outside of normal time, his lifespan extending to tens of thousands of years. These travels marked his transformation from a powerful Krynn mage to a nearly god-like being of multiversal scope.

Ultimately, he set up a base of operations in an outer plane, bringing with him the tower of the old wizard from Krynn and numerous friends and allies from throughout the multiverse. Around the tower, he and his allies built a huge stone complex which later became known as "Tiger Keep" in honor of Rath's clan.

Rathinosk has long since retired as an adventurer, but makes appearances in my D&D campaigns. Much of the time he appears as an elderly human wizard with a long white beard. His actual appearance is known only to a small inner circle of friends, but it is believed he does actually have a beard, which is unusual for an elf.
